THEATRE WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Dedicated to new, exciting, and innovative theatrical works of the highest quality, we provide a space where writers, performers, and an audience can come together in a spirit of community and collaboration to expand our understanding of what is possible in the theatre. We also offer educational programs and support for artist development for Southwestern Virginia. By working in concert with other arts organizations, we will strive to make Roanoke a nationally recognized ignition point for new play development.

Lounges

Beginning in September, our new "Sunday at the Studio" programming kicks in for the 2010-11 season.  We'll offer the Literary Lounge on the first Sunday of every month, along with the popular Acoustic Lounge on the third Sunday.

The Literary Lounge
The Literary Lounge is now sponsored by the Creative Writing Department at Hollins University.  Each month we'll showcase featured writers of various genres and also provide opportunities for emerging writers to share their work in a non-competitive, supportive environment. All work must be original and, for non-featured writers, no more than five minutes long.  The goal is to bring writers and listeners together in a community that is enthusiastic about sharing the written and spoken word.  For details on upcoming presentations,

The Acoustic Lounge
with Chris Shepard
Chris Shepard, one of Roanoke's most exciting and best liked singer/songwriters, hosts this monthly showcase of local acoustic music.  In the first hour we have four featured talents who will each do a 15-minute set of their own original music. After a brief intermission there will be a round-robin sign up for up to ten other local bards to each do a single song. Afterwards we relax and converse, and sometimes even engage in a free form jam session. With that many musicians in the same room, how could you not have a wonderful time?
